Ik had het hier al over enkele campagnes waar “fashion meets football”, maar tot hier toe was het opvallend stil rond Bikkembergs, terwijl het toch net “onze Dirk” is die al heel lang adverteert rond voetbal. Hij heeft zelfs zijn eigen Italiaanse voetbalclub sinds enkele jaren (FC Fossombrone), dus wanneer Bikkembergs reclame maakt rond sport en voetbal lijkt het toch net iets oprechter dan bij sommige andere merken die nu “plots” de 2010 FIFA World Cup hebben “ontdekt”.

Dirk Bikkembergs organiseerde zonet (18 juni, enkele uren geleden, dus uw dierbare ondergetekende is echt wel héél snel deze keer !) de fashion show voor de Men’s Sport Couture Collection Spring/Summer 2011. De show zelf ging door in de buurt van de Tafelberg bij Kaapstad (Zuid-Afrika) maar werd tegelijk via live streaming vertoond op de Piazzza dell’Uomo in Milaan, aangezien deze show kadert in de Milan Men’s Fashion Week.

Ik moet eerlijk toegeven dat ik over het algemeen niet onmiddellijk een fan ben van Bikkembergs. Sorry, ik verbeter mijzelf : ik vind de persoon Dirk Bikkembergs heel sympathiek en authentiek overkomen, zijn ontwerpen zijn erg mannelijk maar toch gestilleerd en gesofisticeerd, zijn aanpak qua communicatie is origineel … maar alles samen vind ik het over het algemeen toch wat “too mucho italian macho”. Na deze collectie en campagne stel ik mijn mening toch weer bij naar boven toe. Uiteraard zijn de modellen opnieuw heel gezonde gespierde en gebruinde mannen, dus op zich verandert er weinig aan de aanpak, maar komt het door het meer integraal uitgewerkten concept deze keer ? A fashion show like never before

For the first time ever, Milan Men’s Fashion Week has moved beyond its familiar surroundings. In all exclusivity and thanks to the latest technology, Dirk Bikkembergs has hosted the first inter-continental fashion show from Cape Town straight to Piazza Duomo in Milan.

For the last decade, Dirk Bikkembergs has been perfecting his creative philosophy that “Football is Fashion”. It was also ten years ago when Dirk first fell in love with South Africa. So, when South Africa won the draw to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, his immediate reaction was “I have to be there!” Later, when he learned that the Milan Men’s Fashion Week coincided with the World Cup, the idea arose to combine two passions and use it as a background for the SS2011 Dirk Bikkembergs Sport Couture fashion show.

The result was broadcasted to the invited press and to the general public on Piazza Duomo in Milan, as well as on the Internet via live streaming.
